It was later used by the powerful Wolf of Badenoch, Alexander Stewart. Its crumbling walls still stand proudly on the island, accessible only by boat or visible from the shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The loch is encircled by a <a href=\"https:\/\/explore.osmaps.com\/route\/22886110\/loch-an-eilein?lat=57.14862&amp;lon=-3.8336&amp;zoom=13.8088&amp;style=Leisure&amp;type=2d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">well-maintained 5 km walking trail<\/a>, ideal for a gentle stroll. This circuit is one of the most scenic low-level walks in the Cairngorms. Along the way, you\u2019ll pass through Scots pine forests, spot red squirrels, deer, and woodland birds, and enjoy stunning views of the loch and its island castle.
