OS Champion, Bel Dixon, shares her favourite spots to enjoy on the stunning South West Coastal Path. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Durdle Door, Dorset<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The path takes in the Jurassic Coast, England\u2019s first natural UNESCO World Heritage Site, which runs from Exmouth to just west of Poole. Around 17 miles long, it\u2019s backed by the Fleet &#8211; Britain\u2019s largest tidal lagoon. Beer is special because it\u2019s bewitchingly pretty but still manages to be a proper, working fishing village with piles of crab pots and a fresh fish shed. So getting onto it then involves hopping on a remarkable Heath Robinson-esque device: a kind of tractor on stilts, where the passengers and driver sit high above the wheels as they trundle through the waves. <a href=\"https:\/\/explore.osmaps.com\/pin?lat=50.280265&amp;lon=-3.898722&amp;zoom=16.0000&amp;style=Leisure&amp;type=2d\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/site\/uploads\/images\/burgh_island.png\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Burgh Island, Devon\">\n<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><small>Burgh Island, Devon<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The island itself is only around 500m by 500m but has an exquisite Art Deco hotel (frequented by Agatha Christie), an appealing pub and a series of footpaths. It takes in the rejuvenated Royal William Yard, a 19<sup>th<\/sup> century naval supply depot that\u2019s now packed with restaurants, and the history-rich Barbican district. This pretty port buzzes with holidaymakers, hikers and boats. Passenger ferries shuttle between the town and the village of Polruan on the River Fowey\u2019s east bank; one of many vital ferry links on the South West Coast Path. <a href=\"https:\/\/explore.osmaps.com\/pin?lat=50.334905&amp;lon=-4.634722&amp;zoom=14.1617&amp;style=Leisure&amp;type=2d\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/site\/uploads\/images\/fowey.png\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Fowey, Cornwall\">\n<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><small>Fowey, Cornwall<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fowey is also synonymous with Daphne du Maurier, author of <em>Rebecca<\/em>, <em>Jamaica Inn<\/em>, <em>Frenchman&#8217;s Creek<\/em> and <em>The Birds<\/em> (the latter became a Hitchcock film). Here the cliffs lurch down from West Penwith\u2019s rolling moors and plunge into a surging sea. A privately-owned village, its cobbled streets seem to flow down north Devon\u2019s steep-sided cliffs. They end in a picture postcard harbour where fishing boats bob and an inn waits to feed and water you. <a href=\"https:\/\/explore.osmaps.com\/pin?lat=50.999278&amp;lon=-4.401361&amp;zoom=15.9684&amp;style=Leisure&amp;type=2d\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/site\/uploads\/images\/clovelly.png\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Clovelly, Devon\">\n<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><small>Clovelly, Devon<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clovelly\u2019s streets are far too steep and slippery for cars \u2013 the main lanes are called &#8220;Up-a-long&#8221; and &#8220;Down-a-long&#8221; and have hundreds of steps. For years villagers used donkeys to deliver goods.
