It would be difficult to choose a favourite season, even the tumultuous grey skies of late autumn, the withering heat of summer and the frozen ground of mid-winter have their charms &#8211; but there&#8217;s something about spring; this awakening of nature after its sleepy hibernation and regeneration of flora and fauna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are a few places where you can enjoy the best spring scenery in Britain &#8211; if not the world!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wakehurst Place, West Sussex<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just off the M23 in Ardingly is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/wakehurst\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wakehurst Place<\/a>, a National Trust property which has the most beautiful gardens. The main attraction is admittedly supposed to be the imposing Elizabethan mansion, but it\u2019s the gardens and woodland which attract the crowds. As the &#8216;country seat&#8217; of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kew.org\/visit-wakehurst\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kew Gardens<\/a>, the estate comprises 465 acres of ornamental gardens, a nature reserve and lakes. Look out for the carpets of bluebells in Bloomer&#8217;s Valley, and softly-coloured magnolias and rhododendrons around the Spring Border at the Mansion Pond. This area in particular offers a &#8216;spring spectacular&#8217; of narcissi, shrubs, flowering currants and lots of interesting bulbs.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/getoutside\/assets\/uploads\/bluebell_wood.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Copyright Alan Hunt\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><small>\u00a9 Copyright Alan Hunt<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a lovely place to visit in any season, but in spring, the blossom and budding leaves are glorious, especially when reflected in the lakes. Don&#8217;t forget your camera, as there are some stunning scenic photos to take of the trees when reproduced in these mirror-like surfaces. You could extend your day out with a trip to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/nationalparks\/south-downs-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">South Downs<\/a>, to admire the perfectly undulating green hills with their sea views. Take the A23 and head towards\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/local\/ditchling-beacon-lewes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ditchling Beacon<\/a>\u00a0for a bracing walk and a magnificent panorama.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/shop.osmaps.com\/map-of-ashdown-forest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PAPER MAP FOR WAKEHURST PLACE: OS EXPLORER 135<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Old Man of Storr, Skye<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voted by The Ramblers as one of its&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/travel\/2009\/apr\/12\/walking-holidays-ramblers-spring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">20 favourite spring walks<\/a>, this spot absolutely emphasises the variety in British landscape. About as far removed as you can get from pretty gardens, this Inner Hebridean scenery is craggy, rocky and dramatic. Fans tend to explore the zig-zagging Trotternish Ridge, which at 23 miles is the longest cliff in the country. As the ridge faces inland, it offers incredible views of the Highlands, right up as far as Ben Nevis.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/getoutside\/assets\/uploads\/the_old_man_of_storr.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Copyright John Allan\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><small>\u00a9 Copyright John Allan<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The terrain might be rocky, but in the springtime, the sight of the Old Man of Storr really is something to behold &#8211; the lava formation positioned against the clear blue sky of the Storr Sanctuary&#8217;s volcanic landscape is unlike anything else you&#8217;ve ever seen. Don&#8217;t expect to see lovely flowers on this trip, but do pack the binoculars and walking boots. It&#8217;s possible to do a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/explore.osmaps.com\/en\/route\/1121666\/Country-Walking-The-Storr-Highland?referrer=GET_OUTSIDE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">circular walk<\/a>\u00a0which starts and finishes at the Storr car park and measures about five miles. the walk is steep but the scenery is splendid.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/explore.osmaps.com\/en\/route\/1121666\/Country-Walking-The-Storr-Highland?referrer=GET_OUTSIDE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OLD MAN OF STORR WALK IN OS MAPS<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/shop.osmaps.com\/map-of-raasay-rona-scalpay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PAPER MAP FOR OLD MAN OF STORR: OS EXPLORER 409<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Farndale, North Yorkshire<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An enduring symbol of spring &#8211; if not&nbsp;<em>the<\/em>&nbsp;symbol &#8211; is the delicate daffodil, and one of the best places to see them is Farndale in the North York Moors National Park. Said to have been originally planted by medieval monks, the area is so famed for the yellow blooms that it&#8217;s known as the &#8216;Daffodil Dale&#8217;.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/getoutside\/assets\/uploads\/farndale_1.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Copyright Paul Allison\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><small>\u00a9 Copyright Paul Allison<\/small><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the flowers have usually disappeared by the end of April, the famous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.northyorkmoors.org.uk\/visiting\/enjoy-outdoors\/walking\/our-walks\/walking-routes\/farndale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daffodil Walk<\/a>\u00a0is still delightful into late spring. This three-mile linear path guides visitors though valleys, across farmland, through churchyards and alongside the River Dove. A gentle journey, it&#8217;s especially nice for the children, who can spot butterflies and birds. Look out for the nearby Lion Inn, Feathersham Arms and Daffy Caf\u00e9 for refreshments en route.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/explore.osmaps.com\/en\/route\/598875\/Farndale-Daffodil-Walk?referrer=GET_OUTSIDE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FARNDALE DAFFODIL WALK IN OS MAPS<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/shop.osmaps.com\/map-of-north-york-moors-western-area\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PAPER MAP FOR FARNDALE: OS EXPLORER OL26<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three Cliffs Bay, Gower Peninsula<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apparently named by opera star Katherine Jenkins as one of the best British views,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/guides\/visit-three-cliffs-bay-gower-peninsula\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Three Cliffs Bay<\/a>&nbsp;in Gower is the perfect springtime destination, where (if it&#8217;s warm enough), you can paddle in the sea or clamber over the headland to seek out juicy fresh raspberries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/osmaps.com\/discover\/getoutside\/site\/uploads\/images\/assets\/uploads\/Three_Cliffs_Bay.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paths cut across the sand dunes to both Pennard Burrows and Penmaen Burrows, from which you can enjoy not only the sight of the golden bay but also the wilderness of natural flowers and grasses that grow when the winter months finally shuffle off. It&#8217;s a popular spot with surfers and horse riders, as well as with hikers. The Gower Way itself stretches out for 35 miles, showcasing this beautiful corner of Wales.
